VIDEO: Check Out Nas’ Harvard Hip-Hop Fellowship

Spotted on Complex:

Last October, Nas and Harvard University announced the details of the Nasir Jones Hiphop Fellowship. The program funds visiting scholars who engage in research and academia related to rap music. Now, a short news story from the San Francisco-based design studio Ammunition gives a glimpse into the real world implications of the program.

The clip focuses on Jared Bridgeman, a Boston rapper who also mentors young rappers in an after-school program at a high school in Cambridge. As Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates explains it, the aim of the fellowship is to incubate black entrepreneurship, and in Bridgeman’s program we get a peek at teens working on a craft that one day could turn into a profession, or maybe something even greater.
